Pregnancy portrait shoots are not for every woman, but I think they are a stylish and affectionate way to document the start of your child’s life.
My photographic approach is very respectful and professional. We will discuss photographic poses and positions, and then I will turn away until you are comfortable with your pose. I have changing facilities, so you can change in privacy. The baby bump photo portrait shoots last roughly an hour or so. I will use a black back drop for the more atmospheric photos and a white backdrop for the modern and fresh style of photos.
You can bring your own props if you have any personal ideas, otherwise I have some available at the studio. Once we have finished the pregnancy portrait session I will either upload the images to the website or you can come back to the studio to view your photos there.

Event photography is more complex than people realise, there are a number of factors that need to be in your favour to achieve a successful night’s photography. The most difficult factor is space for the backdrop and lighting. The photographer needs as much space as possible to fit the backdrop, lights, printer, monitor and props. There are not many venues in Peterborough that are equipped or have the facilities to cater for this. Many are restricted due to in-house customers and limited space.
Ideally the photographer needs to be away from music, in a space of their own, have ample power sockets and have room to move.
Best venues in order
1. Holiday inn – The holiday Inn is the best venue for event photography in my opinion, they are geared up to having photographers and make allowances for you. For large events you have access to the main foyer which is brilliant for space and power. You have plenty of room to move and work. You are also away from the main music source. There is easy access through the fire exit to carry in equipment. A perfect event venue.
2. Marriot – The Marriot Hotel Peterborough is a good venue to photograph event photography. The staff and management accommodate the photographer because they understand it’s an essential element of the guest’s night. The space and location is perfect, you are able to use a four lighted set-up with a white backdrop for modern fresh event photography.
3. Haycock Hotel Wansford – The Haycock hotel provides space by the fire place, it is a tight squeeze, but you can just and only just set up a full white backdrop. All round you only just have enough space, but it can be done, you just haven’t got unlimited freedom. The staff are also very helpful and accommodating.
4. Park Inn – The Park Inn Peterborough is also a good venue. The staff are helpful at making a separate room available and breaking down tables and chairs. You have a whole room to yourself with plenty of space for printers and a full white backdrop set up, with four lights. The only down side is that you are a bit out of the way and if people don’t know you are there you won’t get seen.
5. The Bull – My experience in the Bull hotel was overall quite good. They have limited space for setting up, but this is possible in the bar area, but only for a two lighted set-up. The staff where very helpful and understanding once again and tried their best to fit you in. One drawback is trying to carry your gear from the car to the room, it’s quite a trek.
6. Farcet Club – The Farcet club is quite a good venue for event photography, but only if you can use the space where the pool table is, although if it’s also open to the public then this might not be an option. If that’s the case you are restricted and have to be put near the dance floor which isn’t really safe or appropriate.
7. City Club – The City club is an average venue for event photography as there is very little space to have a backdrop, the staff are not geared up to having photographers there. The only way it can be done is in the lounge, but this needs to be booked out as guest normally use it.

Highgate House Wedding Photography
Highgate house it’s a great wedding photography venue, with endless creative scope for wedding photographs.
I arrived bright and early for Kerry and Damon’s big day. As the whole proceedings where all in one venue I had the luxury of time on my side. As nice as church weddings are, when the proceedings are all in one place it does make the photographers job easier. After some pre-ceremony hair and make up shots it was time for the ceremony. The room look great and I had a perfect spot next to a large window for natural light. I was also able to take discrete photos throughout the ceremony which is always a bonus. The ceremony was packed with emotions and laughter, which was great.
After a large group photo we headed onto the lawn for the smaller group photos, you have a couple of options to choose from for backdrops. The grounds are great just for bride and groom photos, see images below for ideas.
I stayed throughout the speeches and first dance, capturing the action as it unfolded, then ended the night perfectly with Chinese lanterns
Highbury Hall in Moseley is a popular wedding photography venue. The grounds are excellent for wedding photography, there is plenty of open space and great backdrops for fun, relaxed photos. The building itself offers great backdrop potential. Inside the rooms are brilliantly furnished and provide a lovely setting for bride and groom images. The balcony is also a popular spot for photographs. You can’t really go wrong with venue, the opportunities are endless.
South Farm Royston is a unique and popular wedding venue. For a photographer this venue is fantastic.
I arrived to find Louisa scurrying around the room in slight panic, as you might expect, she eventually sat down to be pampered and relaxed. The whole vibe around the venue is not like I have experienced before, it’s unique in its own right. You are instantly relaxed and in tune with the surroundings, as a wildlife photographer I can appreciate the bird song in the background and the roaming piglets all aid in a unique relaxed feel, this must rub off on all the guest and automatically create a positive vibe.
Just the fact that the where setting up the ceremony chairs outside was great, it was a beaming hot day so everything was falling into place.
All the ladies looked beautiful in their dresses and the little bridesmaids were just a picture. The bridal party took the scenic walk around the grounds to the isle where the groom awaited his bride. The ceremony was just perfect for the couple.
The ice cream cart was awaiting the guest after the ceremony which went down a treat. The only drawback for a photographer on a bright day is that there is limited shade for group photos. We did the main ones in the gravel area and looked out the top window. I managed to find a little shade with a good backdrop in the gardens but it wasn’t easy.
Photos of the bride and groom proved to be a lot easier and we wondered around stopping at various stages to pose for a shot. The sun was still beaming down into the evening and after the meal and speeches the atmosphere still had a care free feel to it. A great day
Ickworth house is a marvelous wedding photography venue. The grounds are superb and there are endless photographic opportunities for wedding photography. With numerous great backdrops you are spoilt for choice, but using the buildings as backdrops is a must, I like to take images looking out the top windows using the scene as a panorama to capture the bride and groom in the middle. Take advantage of the Orangery, wooded areas and fields that surround the grounds. The venue is great for candid photographs as the there is plenty of light pouring in from the windows. There is ample space for group photos and once again you have many options weather dependent.
In my opinion Orton Hall is the best venue to have your wedding reception in Peterborough, and if you are not having a church wedding it is also a great venue to have your ceremony as well.
No matter the time of year the photographic scope is endless. With its grand appearance it makes a naturally great backdrop for photographs. The main advantage of this venue is the superb grounds. All around Orton Hall Peterborough there is potential for timeless wedding photos.
The ceremony
The ceremony is conducted in the conservatory. A beautiful set up that allows you to capture every emotion. I prefer to stand behind the registrar’s and capture the photographs of the bride coming down the aisle. During the ceremony photography is limited; you are allowed to take exchanging of rings and then the first kiss. A mock signing of the register is then set-up. The only down side to the room is on a bright day the sunlight cast shadows and unwanted highlights on the wedding party. Use flash or be skilful and work in shaded areas.
Bride and Groom photography
Taking the bride and groom away for 15 minutes or so is a definite must, it gives them space and time to themselves and it also gives you the opportunity to capture some intimate photography. Here are my favourite locations to take bride and groom photographs at Orton Hall Peterborough.
Orton Hall as a backdrop – Frame the bride and groom in various positions using Orton Hall as a backdrop. Have them facing each other, kissing or facing you. Use the different planes of the building along with dynamic composition. Just make sure you eliminate any distractions like people, branches and lighting imperfections. Try variations, for instance, have the bride and groom walking towards and away from you. Also bring a tripod and capture some images of the building at night, you can do this with flash and without.
The back strip of trees – There is a strip of trees at the back of Orton Hall. Without fail I always use this set-up. I get the bride and groom to walk away from me, and then go for a kiss. I am continually zooming in and out and turning my camera at different angels to create various effects.
Large trees – Use the large trees for the bride and groom to rest upon, create various scaled images using viewpoint. Get low to the ground to exaggerate effects.
The road leading around the back– Use the road as a natural curve to lead your eye away or into the photo. If the bride and groom have a wedding car this is a good place to get some shots using the backdrop of Orton Hall or the greenery behind.
The fountain – The fountain can be used as a useful prop, especially with children, get them to run or skip around it.
The church at night – The church just across the way from Orton Hall has some dramatic lighting at night; I have used this to capture some unique images using the bold lighting to create atmospheric photographs.
The steps outside the ceremony room – The steps are a good place to set up a group of kids, if you can get them to stay still?
The staircase inside – The staircase always lends an elegant touch. I normally take the bride here and capture some creative images. I work my way around the staircase, normally looking down with the bride looking up at me.
The seasons
The seasons also put their unique touch on wedding photography, make use of the season’s offerings and incorporate it in your photos. Work with colour and contrasts
Group photography
The seemingly endless space outside, weather permitting, creates the opportunity to chose where you set up for your group photos. If the light is good you can photograph the group photos in the woods. You can have Orton Hall as the backdrop. You can go up into one of the guest rooms and look out the window looking down on the wedding party in the court yard (ask permission before you do this) and you can also use the greenery of the many trees and bushes as a neutral backdrop. I normally ask the bride and groom which they prefer.
